Abstract

The process of “Ukrainization” of higher engineering education in Ukraine in the middle of the twenties of the previous century required from each higher education institution implementation of their own terms of “Ukrainization”, according to the terms, envisaged by the state. To realize it corresponding commissions in higher institutions of Ukraine were set up, their objective was development of planned schedules of “Ukrainization” of the corresponding institution. The teaching staff faced the task of mastering the Ukrainian language so that they could deliver lectures on Ukrainian, lest they should be dismissed. All subjects were to be taught in Ukrainian, short-term courses of Ukrainian were organized for personnel and with that aim textbooks in Ukrainian were supplied to libraries and textbooks in Russian were translated into Ukrainian. But because of poor language proficiency of the staff, shortage of textbooks in Ukrainian and insufficient development of special terminology the process of “Ukrainization» at Higher engineering institution was not fully completed.
