GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING AND PREPARATION OF TEACHERS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN THE CHINA

The article represents a general analysis of the modern Chinese system of teaching English and training foreign language teachers as part of the reform of the educational system initiated by the Chinese government in 2001. It is proposed an analysis of trends and directions in reforming and modernizing the process of teaching English at all stages of the educational system in China, including compulsory for the studying a foreign language (elementary and junior high school, higher education) and non-compulsory ones (pre-school institutions, vocational schools). The main attention in the research is paid to the study of goals and objectives of the educational process, programs and methodological support, hour teaching load, means of assessment of students’ language competence. The basic tendencies of modernization of the process of teaching English in China are determined. They are the reorientation of the educational process from acquiring knowledge of the language system to the communicative process, the purpose of which is to form high communicative competence of students; dissemination of English language teaching in preschool institutions; increase in hour teaching load in schools and universities; revision of educational and methodological literature for the purpose of adapting the world textbooks of the English language to the realities of the educational space in China.
