Abstract

The article dwells upon the factors, which influence the social status of a teenager of 11-12 years old: communicative skills, physical attractiveness, an ability to understand and support, personal achievements etc. The author suggests that the cognitive style of fielddependence \ field-independence could be one of such factors. The article also presents the result of an empirical study, which was made with the pupils of sixth form of a middle school. There is a positive correlation between social status and field-independence: field-independent teenagers have higher social status than field-independent ones. It is concluded that field-independence is one of factors, which influence the social status of a teenager, but not the major one.
