Abstract

This paper deals with language testing and test design to control and assess the obtained receptive competence of the students involved in scientific and technical translation. Testing becomes an integral part of teaching as it provides significant information regarding the growth and achievement of learner’s difficulties and styles of learning. The purpose of scientific and technical translation activities is not to train professional translators, but to help learners acquire and strengthen their knowledge in the English language. The investigation of connections between the receptive skills required for scientific and technical translation and their control found its theoretical and experimental foundation. The ability to translate scientific and technical information requires the formation of receptive skills (listening and reading) in the first place. Therefore, the receptive skills control plays a key role in learning English.
